Pathways

So what pathways are there to achieving the long term goal? 1 Education:  - Curriculums through schools (diversity & cultures) - Separate classes that can be done through the communities in relation to culture, language and history. Sort of like a 'Sunday school' - Interactive Stakeholders - Local council (creating classes & talking to schools) - Government (funding) - Schools (provide spaces for this learning to be embedded) 2 Building curiosity/motivation/awareness: - Use current events to relate? - Encourage people/audience to investigate emotional and genetic links to other cultures - Encourage curiosity at home (parents/grandparents). Help them understand the importance of curiosity in their child's development Ultimate goal? 1 Consistency through different cultures  - Keeping the above pathways consistent through the diverse cultures Potential obstacles/barriers - People who don't care/ lack of motivation - Lack of overall knowl...

Is Culture Sustainable? Examples: Opinion pieces: https://www.taosnews.com/stories/there-are-reasons-why-we-are-losing-our-culture,19012 https://www.thestar.com/life/relationships/opinion/2018/03/01/the-fear-of-losing-culture.html "Without regular trips “back home” or strong relationships through cultural associations, I wonder if my own kids will simply ... lose their culture. And if they do, what exactly have they lost?" "Culture is about more than food or colourful clothing. It is a mindset, a way to experience the world and navigate one’s place within. Culture is family and history and tradition." "In contrast, my kids don’t struggle with the same identity issues. They don’t feel the tug of war between the culture of “back home” and here. For them, “back home” is a historical fact, not a living reality." Article: https://brainworldmagazine.com/losing-our-identity-and-the-need-for-cultural-neuroscience/ "Diminish...

Week 2 - ToC

Theory of Change Sustainable Culture, Identity? - Are we losing our culture through generations? - what are the implications/consequences.  - Is culture becoming diluted through diaspora and adaptation? - Does this mean we will become one super culture (globalisation)? Resulting in loss of cultural identity as an individual as well as a collective? Personal Experience: My parents moved over from India and when we were younger they would tell us things about our religion/culture. Over time as they adapted into the Kiwi culture we (my brother & I) lost that knowledge. Now that we're older and are curious about our roots, our parents have lost touch with their own roots, history, culture.  I wouldn't be able to pass this on to the next generation. Reading things online isn't the same as talking to someone who has that experience and knowledge (someone you trust and can rely on).  This has led to a sense of detachment from myself, parents and co...

Interaction Design Designed, produced or enabled by another person. An 'agent' of that person.  Agents = carriers? Carriers of: - influence - ideologies - systems - energies - interactions - perspectives - values... Sustainability where an interaction can be repeated having a positive impact socially, environmentally and economically.  - There may be new side effects of new ideas so think of barriers/obstacles. Further implications to an idea? Readings The Common Cause Handbook - Our values are a guiding force - abstract ideals. They shape our thoughts and actions. (Agents of influence?)  - Not all behaviours are in line with our values. (An example: We talk about loving animals but are also non-vegeterians) - There are intrinsic and extrinsic values - "For a value to guide a behaviour or attitude, we must see the value as relevant" - pg 26 Design Research and the New Learning - "Design is the human...
