Independent Study - 1

Interaction Design

Designed, produced or enabled by another person. An 'agent' of that person.

Agents = carriers?

Carriers of:

- influence
- ideologies
- systems
- energies
- interactions
- perspectives
- values...

Sustainability where an interaction can be repeated having a positive impact socially, environmentally and economically.

- There may be new side effects of new ideas so think of barriers/obstacles. Further implications to an idea?

Readings

The Common Cause Handbook

- Our values are a guiding force - abstract ideals. They shape our thoughts and actions. (Agents of influence?)
- Not all behaviours are in line with our values. (An example: We talk about loving animals but are also non-vegeterians)
- There are intrinsic and extrinsic values
- "For a value to guide a behaviour or attitude, we must see the value as relevant" - pg 26

Design Research and the New Learning

- "Design is the human power of conceiving, planning and making products that serve human beings in the accomplishment of their individual and collective purposes" - pg 9
- "Unless we become a part of the living experience of human beings, sustaining them in performance of their own actions and experiences, visual symbols and things have no value or significant meaning" - pg 11 The true task as a designer is creating something that has a lasting impression/effect. Whether an interaction, a process, a product or even an idea? Communication is a form of action.
